CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Northern Mindanao is set to declare the municipality of Lopez Jaena of Misamis Occidental as drug free municipality in the region. This comes after the pronouncement of Tangub City, a drug free zone on Thursday.
In an interview of Bombo Radyo Cagayan de Oro, PDEA Regional Director Wilkins Villanueva said the that the success of these two LGUs is the product of hard work, and cooperation by all sectors with the leadership of the mayors.
Meanwhile, in a press briefing, Police Brigadier General Timoteo Pacleb, from the Police Regional Office (PRO-10) expressed his commendations to Tangub City Mayor Philip Tan after the city met all the requirement set forth by the Dangerous Drugs Board Resolution No. 03, Series of 2017, to wit:
- Non-availability of drug supply;
- Absence of drug den, pusher, user;
- Absence of clandestine drug laboratory;
- Active involvement of barangay officials in anti-drug activities;
- Existence of drug awareness, preventive education and information; and
- Existence of voluntary and compulsory drug treatment and rehabilitation processing desk. “Out of the 9 cities in Northern Mindanao, I am happy to announce that Tangub City has earned the distinction as the first “drug-free city in Northern Mindanao,” Pacleb said.
He said, the challenge for Tangub City now is to sustain this status and serve as benchmark for other cities to follow.
Additionally, according to Police Lt. Col. Surki Serenias, that the drug free declaration was made official through an oversight committee resolution approved by PDEA Region 10 Dir. Wilkins Villanueva.
“The event yesterday was also attented by DILG Region 10 Dir. Arnel Agabe, Police Regional Office 10 regional director Brig. Gen. Timoteo Pacleb, DOH Region 10 Dr. Nimfa Torrizo and Tangub City mayor Atty. Philip Tan,” Serenias said.
