The Office of the Vice President established a Disaster Operations Center (DOC) in response to Typhoon Basyang, which struck Mindanao and the Visayas overnight.

Vice President Sara Duterte announced the initiative, stressing that public safety must remain the top priority during calamities.

She underscored the importance of protecting lives, ensuring safe travel, and maintaining secure shelter as the storm continues to affect communities.

Duterte urged citizens to heed official advisories and avoid disregarding instructions from authorities.

She emphasized that following guidance from PAGASA, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) provides assurance of safety for every Filipino during severe weather events.

The newly established DOC is designed to coordinate disaster response efforts, streamline communication among agencies, and mobilize resources quickly to assist affected families.

By centralizing operations, the Vice President aims to strengthen preparedness and ensure that relief and rescue measures are delivered efficiently across storm-hit areas.

This move highlights the national government’s proactive stance in disaster management, reinforcing the message that safeguarding lives must always come first when calamities strike.
