The Supreme Court has declined to issue a temporary restraining order (TRO) sought by Vice President Sara Duterte’s lawyers to halt the impeachment proceedings against her in the House justice committee.
According to Atty. Jojo Lacanilao of the Duterte Panagutin Campaign Network, this decision could risk a constitutional crisis if justices appear to favor Duterte’s request while lawmakers insist on exercising their constitutional power to impeach.
He warned that the country may face serious problems if judicial rulings clash with legislative authority.
Lawmakers allied with the administration have been pushing the impeachment complaints, which Duterte herself has denounced as a grave violation of the Constitution.
