The camp of Vice President Sara Duterte has formally petitioned the Supreme Court to intervene in what they describe as grave abuse of authority by the House Justice Committee.

In an exclusive interview of Bombo Radyo Cagayan de Oro, Atty. Vic Rodriguez, lead convenor of Hakbang ng Maisug, the petition, filed challenges the committee’s unanimous decision that found sufficient grounds to proceed with an impeachment trial against the Vice President.

Earlier this month, all 53 members of the House Justice Committee voted in favor of elevating the case to the plenary, where 318 lawmakers are expected to cast their votes on whether Duterte should be removed from office.

If approved, the matter will move to the Senate for trial proper.

Rodriguez argued that the committee’s investigation was conducted in a manner that violated due process and unfairly targeted the Vice President.

He emphasized that the Supreme Court must now step in to safeguard constitutional rights and ensure that the proceedings are not tainted by political maneuvering.
