Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy has directed the Agricultural Productivity Operations Office, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (CDRRMD), and the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO) to prepare for the looming Super El Niño phenomenon expected to hit the Philippines from June to August this year.
The mayor emphasized the urgency of action, noting that time is moving quickly and affected communities particularly farmers, fisherfolk, and other vulnerable sectors must be supported.
He tasked the offices to explore strategies and allocate resources to cushion the impact of the extreme heat and reduced rainfall that typically accompany El Niño.
Uy highlighted that rainfall percentages are projected to drop significantly during this rare climate event, making proactive measures essential to safeguard livelihoods and ensure resilience.
