The Coalition Against Trafficking in Women‑Asia Pacific (CATW‑AP) rejected claims that the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte and the cases against former President Rodrigo Duterte amount to persecution.
Founding convenor Jean Enriquez explained that these proceedings are part of ensuring justice and accountability.
She said that every debate must be grounded in clear evidence, particularly in the International Criminal Court (ICC) case.
Enriquez noted that the investigations have a strong scientific and legal basis, including charges of crimes against humanity involving Duterte and alleged co‑perpetrators.
For her, impeachment and other legal processes should be understood as mechanisms within the justice system, designed to hold officials accountable and give the nation a chance to achieve genuine justice.
