Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa’s hiding in the Senate on May 13, cannot be called a fugitive or an escape from the law, but only for his own protection.
This was revealed by Atty. Angel Lim, former provincial administrator.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Lim said that the senator’s move cannot be considered an evasion of arrest or an escape because he only sought to protect his freedom.
According to him, Dela Rosa has a reason to protect himself, especially since for him the senator’s personal freedom and security are at risk.
The lawyer also explained that from a legal perspective, this does not fall under the definition of an escape or avoidance of the process of justice.
He added that the senator is still seeking legal advice and remedies through due process of law. For the lawyer, there is no indication that Dela Rosa is avoiding the legal process, but is simply exercising his rights under the law
