Former Misamis Oriental Vice Governor Joey Pelaez has called on the Supreme Court to issue an urgent and final ruling on Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa’s case.
He stressed the need to determine whether an individual can be sent directly to The Hague without passing through Philippine courts.
Pelaez also cited the situation of former President Rodrigo Duterte, who faced an ICC arrest warrant, yet questions remain about whether due process was followed.
The ambiguity, he said, has fueled confusion and unrest within the Senate.
A clear Supreme Court decision would settle the matter and provide guidance on the country’s obligations under international law.
It would also help restore order and credibility to the legislative body.
Pelaez emphasized that only the highest court can resolve these constitutional and legal uncertainties. He expressed hope that the ruling will end the controversy and strengthen democratic institutions.
