Mental health advocate and consultant Stella Ferrarez, RPM, has strongly condemned the widespread misconception that individuals diagnosed with depression can automatically obtain a Person with Disability (PWD) ID.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Ferrarez explained that depression is a mental health condition affecting the brain, which can be treated through proper therapy and medication.

She stressed that not all cases of depression qualify for a PWD ID, as there are specific guidelines and processes set by authorities to determine eligibility.

From a psychological standpoint, Ferrarez also disagreed with Senator Robinhood Padilla’s claim that depression did not exist in the past.

She clarified that depression has long been present but was often hidden due to stigma and lack of awareness about mental health.

Ferrarez urged the public to develop a deeper understanding of depression and to eliminate misconceptions that contribute to discrimination.

She emphasized that accurate knowledge and compassion are essential in supporting those affected by mental health conditions.
