Wilson Amad, convenor of the People’s Constitutional Reform Initiative, has proposed the implementation of price control as a more concrete government measure to curb rising costs of fuel and basic commodities triggered by tensions in the Middle East.
Amad acknowledged that encouraging the public to conserve energy and fuel is a good initiative, but stressed that it is not enough to ease the impact of the crisis.
He suggested strict monitoring of inventories of oil and essential goods in the market to prevent unjustified price hikes.
He also recommended organizing volunteer groups to assist the government in checking supply and prices in local markets.
According to Amad, these measures would help safeguard the public against unreasonable increases in costs while the economic crisis continues. (co-written by James Oliver)
