The August Twenty-One Movement (ATOM) has appealed to legislators to place the country’s welfare ahead of political interests following the Supreme Court’s dismissal of impeachment articles against Vice President Sara Duterte.
ATOM President Volt Bohol underscored that while filing complaints against officials suspected of wrongdoing is a legitimate political right, impeachment is more than a partisan tool, it is a constitutional safeguard meant to prevent abuse of power and protect the Filipino people.
He reminded lawmakers that the process must be respected and applied fairly, stressing that “no smoke can be hidden forever” and that due process will ultimately reveal the truth.
The group cautioned against obstructing citizens’ complaints through technicalities that could derail justice and accountability.
ATOM emphasized that lawmakers have a responsibility to uphold transparency, ensure that public grievances are heard, and avoid shielding officials from scrutiny.
According to the movement, impeachment is not political theater but a vital mechanism to preserve good governance and democratic integrity.
They reiterated that national interest must always outweigh partisan loyalty.
Finally, ATOM called for a renewed commitment to integrity and fairness, reminding leaders that their ultimate duty is to serve the Filipino people with honesty and accountability.
