Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando Klarex Uy has announced that the local government is studying the feasibility of implementing a four-day work week across all city offices as part of efforts to conserve fuel and electricity.
Working closely with Legal Officer Atty. Roy Ragas and HR CPU Administrator, the mayor said the assessment is being conducted in response to rising fuel and power costs driven by ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
Uy has already directed government offices to reduce electricity consumption, particularly by limiting the use of air-conditioning units when temperatures are cooler, and to rely on electric fans and lights only when necessary.
He emphasized that adjusting work schedules could help employees and the city government prepare for the potential impact of higher utility prices while ensuring that essential public services remain uninterrupted.
Although no exact date has been set for the possible rollout, the mayor stressed that the initiative is part of a broader program to improve efficiency and safeguard resources during a period of global uncertainty.
