Cagayan de Oro City — The Cagayan de Oro First Taxi Drivers Alliance (CAFITADA) has formally petitioned for a fare increase, urging authorities to raise the flag-down rate from ₱40 to ₱65 in response to soaring fuel prices and mounting operational expenses.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo, CAFITADA President Bernie Jamaca explained that while taxi fares in Metro Manila and Cebu City have already adjusted to higher rates, Cagayan de Oro drivers continue to struggle under outdated pricing.

The group’s proposal includes:

₱65 flag-down rate

₱15 per kilometer charge

₱3 per minute waiting time

Jamaca noted that although the petition seeks ₱65, authorities may approve a compromise rate of ₱55, depending on regulatory review.

CAFITADA hopes the adjustment will help taxi drivers sustain their livelihoods and keep pace with the city’s evolving transportation and economic conditions.
