Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, in a phone call with Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, expressed China’s readiness to work with Bahrain to push for a ceasefire, restore peace, and achieve lasting stability in the Middle East.

Zayani, chair of the Gulf Cooperation Council’s Ministerial Council, briefed Wang on severe security challenges facing Gulf countries, including obstruction of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

He emphasized Bahrain’s willingness to leverage the UN Security Council to help resolve the shipping passage issue and strengthen coordination with China.

Wang reiterated China’s principled stance against aggression and highlighted a recent five-point initiative with Pakistan calling for civilian protection, Strait of Hormuz security, and resumption of normal shipping.

He stressed that the UN Security Council should ease tensions and end hostilities rather than endorse illegal acts of war.

As a permanent member of the Council, Wang affirmed China’s commitment to working with Bahrain to safeguard peace, stability, and the rights of the Global South, especially small and medium-sized nations.
