The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has provided an additional ₱1,000 transport allowance to teachers who served as Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) during the May 12 midterm elections.
The increase serves as a gesture of appreciation for their dedication in ensuring the smooth conduct of the polls, especially with the use of Automated Counting Machines (ACMs).
According to Comelec Region 10 Director Atty. Renato Magbutay, the decision to increase the BEIs’ allowance came directly from the commission’s central office.
The teachers have also received their honorarium, compensating them for their service in overseeing the election process at polling precincts.
This move acknowledges the crucial role of educators in safeguarding the integrity of the elections.
