Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit has issued a tearful apology after newly released U.S. Justice Department documents revealed extensive contact with Jeffrey Epstein, even after his 2008 conviction.

In a televised interview, she confessed to feeling “manipulated and deceived,” saying she now regrets ever meeting him and recalled feeling unsafe during a 2013 visit to his Palm Beach mansion.

While she faces no criminal charges, the revelations have triggered one of the biggest scandals in Norway’s royal history, with polls showing declining public support for her future as queen and raising questions about the monarchy’s credibility.
