CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) transferred a project to local governments in Matungao and Pantar, Lanao del Norte.

This initiative, called Project LAWA at BINHI, aims to boost local resilience against water scarcity and food insecurity.

LAWA at BINHI stands for “Local Adaptation to Water Access and Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished.”

The project involved building and fixing small farm reservoirs with fish farming and communal gardens.

It provided immediate help through cash-for-work programs and training, while also setting up long-term solutions for vulnerable communities.

The turnover ceremony included representatives from DSWD and local officials. Over 500 residents from Matungao and Pantar participated, showcasing their strong support for this sustainable development and disaster preparedness project.

“We’re thrilled to see the completion of Project LAWA at BINHI and its positive impact,” said a DSWD representative. “This project equips residents with the skills and resources they need to succeed despite challenges.”

Local governments in Matungao and Pantar will now manage these new resources.

All parties involved are committed to working together to ensure the project’s long-term success. Project LAWA at BINHI serves as a model for empowering communities and reducing disaster risks.

It highlights the importance of proactive measures to address the needs of at-risk populations.

DSWD is dedicated to supporting similar initiatives that promote sustainable livelihoods and make communities more resilient to natural disasters.

These efforts, done in partnership with local governments and stakeholders, aim to create lasting positive changes and inclusive growth across the region.
