CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Mindanao International Container Port (MICT) port collector John Simon has reminded the Korean Government of their commitment to the Bureau of Customs (BoC) to immediately re-export the remaining garbage of Verde Soko Philippines Industrial Incorporated the soonest after a huge fire incident took place on their facility, on Monday.

Simon expressed that the remaining 5000 metric tonnes of Korean garbage is causing fires and a big danger to the environment of Misamis Oriental.

In his text message, Simon complained that the korean Ministry of Environment is very slow.

“Last June 8 Korean Environment officials came to the Phillipines to discuss the process of returning the garbage to Korea unfortunately the vessel that is suppose to pick up the garbage has not yet been identified by the korean Government”, Simon said.

The MICT official is also urging Seoul’s Health And Environment department to fast track what they’ve promised to the Duterte Administration.

“Bcause of the threat to Health and Environment it is high time put pressure on the korean Government To fasttrack the process of repatriation of the korean garbage now”, Simon added.

Meanwhile, the Misamis Oriental Representative Juliette Uy is now pushing a congressional probe of the recent incident.

Uy is also responsible for the creation of House Bills banning the importation of garbage in the Philippines.

The lawmaker is confident that she will have enough support of these bills because of the massive impacts on health and environmental issue on Verde Soko’s garbage anomalies.

Additionally, the environmental group, EcoWaste coalition is now speculating that a posible sabottage took place when the fire razed thousand of tons f the illegal imported waste of Verde Soko.

Recently, Aileen Lucero, the national chairman of the group echoed to Bombo Radyo Cagayan de Oro that few weeks ago, they have sent a letter to South Korean President Moon Jae-in to address the issue. Yet still the snobbish leader did not made such reply.
