Congress must immediately act to postpone the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) if that is truly their decision, according to Atty. Goyo Larrazabal, senior partner at Divina Law Office.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Larrazabal stressed the importance of expediting the process to avoid unnecessary expenses for the government and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), which has already begun preparations for the polls.
He noted that it is not easy to return funds to the Treasury, especially if some have already been spent on election preparations.
He further explained that the decision now rests with the Senate and the House of Representatives. However, given the recurring cycle of barangay and SK elections every three years, questions inevitably arise about whether such postponements remain consistent with the Constitution.
Larrazabal emphasized that any congressional action must be clear, swift, and firmly grounded in law.
