Former Cagayan de Oro mayor Atty. Oscar Moreno expressed hope that the escalating tensions among the United States, Israel, and Iran can be halted or at least de-escalated to prevent greater devastation worldwide.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Moreno stressed that if peace cannot be achieved immediately, gradual de-escalation is crucial to avoid mass casualties and a wider war.
He underscored the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open for free passage of ships, noting that it is a vital artery for global crude oil supply.
A closure, he warned, would severely impact nations dependent on oil imports, including energy-hungry economies like China, and could trigger a ripple effect across the global economy.
Moreno emphasized that the ongoing conflict threatens not only regional stability but also the broader international order, as energy security is directly tied to economic resilience.
He urged all parties involved to pursue diplomatic solutions, highlighting that unchecked escalation could destabilize Asia-Pacific and beyond.
