CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Muslim communities across Northern Mindanao peacefully celebrated Eid al-Adha, also known as the “Feast of Sacrifice.”
The festivities began on Sunday after Imam Amerodin Guro of Oro Jamaah Masjid announced the sighting of the moon on Saturday night.
Eid ul-Adha honors Prophet Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God.
Following Islamic tradition, Muslims attend morning prayers before enjoying a celebratory meal.
The first portions of sacrificed cows and goats are traditionally shared with fellow Muslims.
Wealthier individuals are obligated to distribute food to the less fortunate during this holy occasion.
Imam Guro expressed his hope for global peace during his Eid message.
To recall, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos declared Eid ul-Adha a national holiday through Proclamation No. 579, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
