Professional Criminologists Association of the Philippines (PCAP) President Dr. Gerry J. Caño criticized the government’s decade-long failure to implement a serious and concrete security plan amid ongoing shooting and stabbing incidents in the country’s educational institutions.
In his statement, he noted that the Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education have neglected students by leaving campuses without adequate security measures.
The criminologist added that it is baffling how banks and shopping malls maintain security guards while public and private schools remain vulnerable without reliable protection.
Pointing to this severe systemic weakness, the official urged the government to act immediately and provide genuine protection for students against internal threats.
