The Northern Mindanao Federation of Transport Service Cooperative is grappling with soaring fuel prices that have severely affected the operation of modern jeepneys.
Luzminda Escobidal, the group’s representative, revealed that gasoline prices have surged to ₱96.10 per liter from ₱51 in the previous delivery, prompting calls for fuel subsidies and a possible petition for fare increases.
Escobidal explained that the cooperative’s priority is to sustain services and ensure the safe operation of their units, stressing that this is not merely a personal demand but a necessity to continue serving the public—especially amid ongoing Middle East tensions that drive fuel prices higher.
She noted that the current subsidies for modern and traditional units are insufficient, underscoring the need for stronger, long-term solutions.
Escobidal also highlighted that filing a petition for fare increases marks the first such move in Mindanao, with hopes of gaining support from the public and stakeholders to secure the sustainability of modern transport services.
