The Streetlight: Suga Sa Dalan Organization Inc. has vowed to pursue legal action against any adult found responsible for the early pregnancy of minors, stressing that such acts are considered statutory rape under Philippine law.
Administrator Marion Sorio explained in an interview with Bombo Radyo that while the organization seeks to help young people in vulnerable situations, it cannot ignore clear violations of the law.
Sorio emphasized that adults, being of sound age and judgment, carry the responsibility not to enter into relationships with minors.
He clarified that even if a minor and an adult claim to be in a consensual relationship, the law still recognizes the act as a crime.
The primary purpose of the statute, Sorio said, is to protect children from abuse and exploitation.
Sorio added that if such cases cannot be prevented, they must be openly discussed and explained to the public so that people understand why the law strictly prohibits these relationships.
The organization underscored that safeguarding the welfare of minors remains the foremost priority.
