Streetlight: Suga sa Dalan Organization Inc. has reported a troubling increase in the number of young people being drawn into prostitution in the city.
Administrator Marion Soriano revealed that several barangays have recorded cases where minors were rescued from pimps, with hotspots identified along Coastal Road and Divisoria as common areas for illicit transactions.
Despite the city’s curfew, the group is urging local authorities and concerned agencies to strengthen enforcement to prevent minors from roaming the streets at night, where they risk being recruited into illegal activities.
Soriano emphasized the need for continuous and “minute-by-minute” police patrols, noting that many youths return outside once they see roving operations have ended.
The organization also appealed to barangay officials to maintain night patrols and immediately rescue any minors found loitering after dark. They further stressed the importance of returning these children to their parents, who must be educated about the dangers and risks their children face when exposed to such environments.
