Significant government funds will be saved and recurring community conflicts prevented if the 5-year term for barangay and SK officials is formally approved.
According to Cagayan de Oro ABC President Captain Marlo Tabac, instead of conducting elections three times within an 8-year period, polls would only be held twice under a longer term.
The official explained that if each election costs ₱20 million, a substantial ₱20 million in government funds will be conserved.
Beyond fiscal savings, Tabac clarified that longer terms afford neighbors and families more time to mend relationships often strained by intense political rivalries.
