Health experts are warning parents to be extra vigilant during Valentine’s Day, as teenage pregnancy cases continue to climb in the city.
The Community Improvement Division reported a noticeable increase in incidents, raising concern among educators and health advocates.\
Adolescent Health and Development Program Coordinator Michael Abrogar explained that sexual activity at a young age should not be mistaken for genuine love.
He stressed that such behavior is often driven by curiosity and poor decision-making among teenagers, which can lead to consequences they are not prepared to face.
Abrogar also urged secondary schools to strengthen their guidance programs, teaching adolescents to protect their bodies and prioritize self-care. Instead of rushing into relationships that mimic married life, he emphasized the importance of instilling lessons that empower young people to make responsible choices and safeguard their future.
This, he said, is crucial in addressing the growing issue of teenage pregnancy in the community.
