The Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail marked Valentine’s Day with a lively sports fest and family day for persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), giving them a chance to celebrate love and togetherness despite confinement.
Provincial Jail Warden Rogelio Labor explained that the activities were designed to uplift spirits and strengthen family bonds.
As part of the celebration, PDLs were also allowed to avail of conjugal visits with their spouses, reinforcing relationships on this special day.
Labor clarified that the program comes with requirements: only legally married couples are eligible, not those in casual relationships.
Each couple is given one hour of privacy due to limited facilities, ensuring all qualified PDLs can be accommodated.
He added that conjugal visits are permitted only once a month, in line with official guidelines.
The initiative highlights the jail’s effort to balance discipline with compassion, recognizing the importance of family support in rehabilitation.
