CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – In a surprising turn of events, Vice President Sara Duterte has publicly expressed regret for her role in endorsing President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. during the 2022 elections.
Speaking at the 39th anniversary celebration of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) Church in Davao City, Duterte issued a heartfelt apology to the church members for urging them to support Marcos.
“Nagkamali ako sa paghingi ng suporta n’yo kay President Bongbong Marcos” (I made a mistake in asking for your support for President Bongbong Marcos), Duterte said.
She revealed that her initial belief that she and Marcos shared the same platform, particularly on the topics of unity and sustainable governance, was misguided.
“I was on the mistaken belief that we were together on the platform of Unity and continuity”, VP Sara, admits.
Duterte’s statement marks a significant shift in her stance and highlights growing tensions between her and President Marcos.
She also condemned recent police actions at the KOJC compound, describing them as an abuse of power.
The vice president’s candid admission and apology to the 6 million-strong KOJC members underscore her repentance and desire for forgiveness, acknowledging that their votes were, in her view, wasted.
