The country continues to face challenges in energy use and environmental protection, according to Atty. Angela Ibay of the Climate Change and Energy Program at the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). Ibay said they are strengthening campaigns for renewable energy, energy efficiency, and conservation through simple yet effective practices such as turning off unused lights and careful use of water, especially during hot weather. She added that they are also partnering with local governments, including Cagayan de Oro City, through the One Planet City program to update greenhouse gas inventories and deepen climate action measures. Ibay emphasized that pollution is not the only concern today, but also sustainable food systems, disaster risk management, and biodiversity conservation, since nature plays a vital role in reducing the impacts of disasters. She therefore urged the public and government to work together in implementing sustainable solutions to protect the planet. The goal, she stressed, is to safeguard the environment for future generations.
