On the eve of the fourth anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a high-stakes video call, reaffirming their “no limits” strategic partnership and presenting their alliance as a stabilising force amid global tensions.
Putin stressed that Moscow–Beijing ties were crucial for maintaining balance in a turbulent world, while Xi proposed a broad plan to expand cooperation, signaling deeper economic and political integration.
Since 2022, China has become an economic lifeline for Russia, boosting trade and energy links to offset Western sanctions, and Xi’s remarks underscored Beijing’s intent to continue this support despite mounting pressure from Western leaders.
The call highlighted how both countries are positioning their partnership as a counterweight to Western influence, reinforcing their shared vision of reshaping global power dynamics.
