The Liga ng mga Barangay is studying possible penalties for establishments that sell alcoholic beverages, especially during late-night or early-morning hours.

ABC Liga ng mga Barangay President Marlo Tabac revealed that this move is their response to the special report of Councilor Roger Abaday, who seeks to regulate the sale of liquor and the use of improvised mufflers linked to drag racing and nighttime disturbances in some barangays.

Tabac pointed out that although most bars follow the 12 midnight last order rule, many customers still go to nearby convenience stores to continue drinking.

He added that some stores not only sell alcohol but also allow customers to drink inside or outside their premises.

According to councilors, excessive drinking is a major cause of illegal drag racing in areas such as Kauswagan, Gusa, and the coastal road leading to Lapasan, while Jonjon Rodriguez suggested strengthening the role of barangays in enforcing the law in coordination with the police and the Roads and Traffic Administration.
