The United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) has urged senators to remain fair and faithful to the Constitution as they sit as judges in the upcoming impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte.
According to Rev. Rey Alejandro Lazaro of the UCCP, it is crucial that senators base their judgment not on personal interests or political affiliations, but on the evidence and principles presented by the prosecution during the proceedings.
He emphasized that lawmakers must fulfill their responsibility in accordance with the law and their conscience as public officials.
Lazaro explained that the church’s prayers are focused on guiding leaders toward integrity and preventing partisan politics from influencing such a sensitive process.
The church leader called on senators to exercise caution and responsibility in their decisions, noting that the outcome will have a significant impact on the nation and on public trust in the government system.
