The August Twenty-One Movement (ATOM) expressed no surprise over the court’s decision to dismiss the case involving the alleged ill-gotten wealth of the Marcos family.

However, Volt Bohol of ATOM described the ruling as a grave insult and a painful reminder for all who fought to topple the dictatorship in the country.

The group believes that government powers may have taken advantage of the public’s current focus on Senate issues to quietly push for the dismissal of the case.

ATOM further noted that the present situation—where the dictator’s son now serves as president—shows that such outcomes are no longer unexpected, even if they remain difficult to accept.
