Around 800,000 to 900,000 farmers, including farm workers, are registered under the Farmers Registry System of the Department of Agriculture Region 10 and may be affected by El Niño.
According to DA-10 Director Jose Apollo Pacamalan, about 280,000 of these are rice and corn farmers who will receive government support.
The agency has already begun distributing the Presidential Assistance for Farmers and Fisherfolks over the past two weeks to help address their needs.
This aid serves as initial support for farmers so they can start planting and prepare their respective lands.
