Although some senators shifted allegiance, Atty. Raymond Batu, legal counsel of DDS SARA ALL Confederation, clarified that the new 13-member majority bloc under Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian is legitimate.
However, he stated that the Supreme Court must intervene to provide clear guidance on constitutional issues, especially regarding lowering the voting threshold from 24 to 22 senators.
He also emphasized that legitimate questions must still be resolved regarding the actions and resolutions passed by the bloc since June 3.
Batu explained that interpreting the 1987 Constitution is the primary duty of the Supreme Court to ensure that the legislative process is lawful and proper.
Finally, he called for judicial action to prevent possible disorder in upcoming Senate proceedings, such as impeachment cases.
