“Far from reality!” This was the remark of Rauf Sissay of Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) regarding the World Bank report that the Philippines has entered upper-middle income status.
Sissay explained that their group cannot accept such a declaration, pointing out the daily hardships experienced by ordinary citizens.
He added that this classification does not feed Filipinos who continue to suffer from poverty and economic crisis.
Because of this, Sissay questioned the credibility of the World Bank’s figures compared to the actual situation in the country.
