The Green Party of the Philippines criticized the government’s continued push for mining activities despite the sector contributing only about 1% to the country’s GDP.
National Chairperson David D’Angelo stressed the need to revise current policies by banning the export of raw minerals to encourage the establishment of heavy industries that could raise GDP contributions to 5–10%.
He explained that such a move would help protect the environment and ensure that minerals extracted from the country are not simply exported without proper compensation to the government.
