Atty. Melchor Magdamo, legal counsel of the United People’s Initiative (UPI), criticized the impeachment court’s decision to issue a subpoena for Vice President Sara Duterte’s bank, tax, and AMLAC records from 2007 to 2025.
He likened it to casting a large fishing net just to find evidence against the vice president over nearly two decades.
Magdamo clarified that the decision came only from Presiding Judge Chiz Escudero and is not yet the ruling of the entire court unless voted upon.
He stressed the importance of following due process in judicial proceedings.
