Cagayan de Oro City is alarmed by the average of one child falling victim to human trafficking and being rescued every month.
This was disclosed by Esther Buehlmann, Executive Director of the Streetlight – Suga sa Dalan Organization, Inc., who shared that they rescued 12 minors last year and have already aided seven since July.
To combat this illegal activity, they regularly organize major rescue operations every two months in collaboration with various agencies such as the ORPC, CSWD, COCPO, and the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children.
She added that their group also monitors areas frequently used as dens for youth, particularly along the city’s coastal areas.
