The labor group Young Free Workers strongly condemned the government and courts for showing blatant favoritism toward capitalists instead of protecting low-wage workers.
Norvin Gavino, interim president of the organization, pointed out that when ordinary workers file labor cases with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), resolution can take anywhere from two years to over a decade as cases drag through the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC), the Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court.
In contrast, courts act with striking speed to issue resolutions and Temporary Restraining Orders (TROs) in favor of big business owners, particularly in Metro Manila.
The group stated that this disparity clearly proves the system favors corporate interests over the Filipino working class.
