Global Economics Professor Dr. Allain Fonte urged the national government to negotiate terms that strongly favor the Philippines if it intends to participate in the proposed Pax Silica AI Hub initiative.

Dr. Fonte explained that safeguards must be put in place to protect local resources amid the ongoing technological competition between the United States and China.

While the project is projected to create up to 130,000 jobs, Dr. Fonte expressed concern that high-value opportunities might ultimately be dominated by foreign firms.

He cautioned policymakers to ensure any bilateral agreements deliver tangible benefits to Filipino workers and domestic industries.
