Cagayan de Oro District Fire Marshal Fire Senior Superintendent Rey Lorono confirmed that electrical system faults and grass fires remain the leading causes of local fire incidents.

Lorono attributed electrical ignitions primarily to unserviced wiring, unplunged appliances, and prolonged exposure to high ambient temperatures.

To enhance community response, the BFP is activating Community Fire Auxiliary Groups across local barangays through its Oplan Ligtas na Pamayanan program.

Trained neighborhood volunteers will serve as initial responders during fire outbreaks while conducting ongoing fire safety awareness drives.
