NAMFREL representative Eric Jude Alvia announced that civil society and cause-oriented groups are finalizing a joint Supreme Court petition to halt the postponement of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections and prevent deferrals in candidate filings.
Alvia questioned the rapid enactment of election postponement bills within six months, contrasting it with Congress’s four-decade failure to pass anti-political dynasty legislation.
He suggested that election deferrals serve the personal interests of incumbent politicians rather than broader public reform.
