The effects of El Niño have begun to impact Cagayan de Oro City—this was disclosed by Acting Department Manager and OIC City Agriculturist Bernie A. Daba Jr. following reported damage to crops in hinterland barangays.
Due to the threat, Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy expedited the approval of funds for agricultural inputs to assist farmers and fisherfolk.
The official explained that the city has already provided initial aid to prevent further damage and hardship to affected livelihoods.
Daba added that the local government continues strict monitoring and preparations to ensure the food crisis does not worsen in the city.
