Geopolitical analyst Prof. Anna Malindog-Uy warned that the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry is now threatened by the rapid rise of artificial intelligence (AI), which is more cost-efficient and cost-effective.

She explained that the country should not rely heavily on the sector, as routine tasks performed by BPO workers could eventually be replaced by robots.

Malindog-Uy added that BPO jobs are not truly based in the Philippines nor owned by Filipinos, making them a form of underemployment.

She stressed that the government must seriously address this situation to protect the livelihood of many Filipinos.
