Akbayan Youth groups in Iligan and Lanao called on authorities not to hand over the rehabilitation of the Agus-Pulangi Hydroelectric Power Complex to private corporations.
Jhune Ace A. Lubang, chairperson of the organization, argued that the government is more than capable of funding the project, citing the facility’s net income of ₱9.20 billion in 2024.
He pointed out that this figure reflects significant growth compared to the ₱8.5 billion earned in 2014, raising public concern over why private sector involvement is being considered despite such profitability.
Lubang stressed that the issue deserves scrutiny, as many citizens are questioning the necessity of privatization when the facility has consistently generated substantial income.
