Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro Integral Ecology Coordinator Donna Echalico advocated for planting native tree species such as Narra, Molave, and Tugas to cool ambient air temperatures and boost local oxygen levels.
Echalico advised against planting invasive exotic species like Mahogany, which degrade soil quality. She suggested planting native trees along wide road medians instead of utilizing those spaces for parking.
Additionally, Echalico reminded property owners to regularly trim mature tree branches to prevent hazards to passersby during severe weather.
