Basketball coach Rocky Calingin expressed hope that sports authorities will thoroughly review the training methods implemented by Ateneo de Manila University’s Blue Eagles Men’s Basketball Team following the tragic drowning of two athletes during a reported team-building activity.
Coach Calingin emphasized that modern training programs often include cross-training or aqua training to prepare athletes for upcoming tournaments.
He noted that such activities have been conducted annually as part of the team’s regular program.However, in light of the tragedy, Calingin stressed the need for a careful reassessment of training practices.
He urged concerned authorities to enforce stricter precautionary measures to ensure the safety of student-athletes and prevent similar incidents in the future.
