The Cagayan de Oro City Health Office issued an alert regarding heat stroke risks as heat index levels reached an unprecedented 40°C to 43°C across the city.
City Health Officer Dr. Rachel Daba-Dilla noted that temperatures historically hovered around 35°C, making the current extreme heat unprecedented for the locality.
Dr. Dilla explained that the office guided the suspension of in-person public school classes to prevent severe dehydration, heat cramps, and heat exhaustion among students.
To restore essential body salts lost through sweating, she advised the public to consume a solution of one glass of water mixed with a pinch of salt and three teaspoons of sugar.
